Nina Gumbs hails from the east coast, having grown up in the Washington, DC area suburbs where she first began her training at the age of seven.
After attending, the Alvin Ailey summer program as a scholarship recipient in high school, Nina was inspired to pursue a dance education at the collegiate level. Nina was selected into the prestigious Glorya Kaufman School of Dance B.F.A program at USC in Los Angeles, CA in 2018 with an expected graduation date in Spring 2022.
Nina’s training is a rainbow of exposure including Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, House, Locking, Modern, Contemporary, Heels, Commercial dance and Musical theater. As a student at USC, Nina has been privileged to train and work artist such as d. Sabela Grimes, Saleemah E Knight, E. Moncel Durden, William Forsythe, Jodie Gates, Patrick Corbin, Thomas McManus, Fiona Barbra Highland Eddy, Amy O’Neal and Tiffany Bong.
Nina’s training in the Kaufman program includes performance of repertoire by Jiři Kylián of Netherlands Dance Theater, Bret Easterling of the Batsheva Dance Company, Paul Taylor, Barak Marshall, and Hope Boykin of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Nina’s time in Los Angeles has opened many doors including the opportunity to choreograph and perform for a wide range of projects across the city.
Nina’s style as a dancer can only be described as versatile and unique. The love and passion she has for dance influences the way she teaches and mentors as she continues to strive to be one of the best at her craft.
